Let’s be clear, this is not a fancy address, this is A TOP address in Nice. A genuine, family, old place “dans son jus” as we said here, not a tourist magnet! Homemade raviolis, gnocchis, stuffed cabbage, pissaladière of course, aïoli (a garlic mayonnaise famous in the south of France, watch your breath), and every last friday of the month, stockfish, a kind of fish ragout made with dried cod.
We choose on the very simple “day special menu”. For 12,50 euros you can have: homemade pissaladière, leek tart or sardine fritters as starters, then “daube provençale with ravioli” (beef cooked in red wine), small fried fishes “friture”, or the plat du jour wich was red mullet filet. We tasted everything as we were with my brother, i told you, that’s a family place! You can also choose on the regular menu cause everything is so good.
The ambiance is very simple, no frills, paper tablecloth, open kitchen with the two busy ladies cooking like at home, they were working on stuffed cabbage, a total lack of “chichi”. It’s like that, take it or leave it, and that is full of charm.
Be carefull on your way there as it is referenced under a wrong address in most of the internet reviews. It’s just near by la “place Saint François”, where the fish market takes place. The exact address is 15, rue Saint François in le Vieux Nice and not rue “Saint François de Paule” which is also in the old NIce, but at the exact opposite! You’d better call to make a resa before going as it is always full, but the welcome is very warm. I told you: that’s a very good address!
