Last Saturday we visited the Wine Exhibition of Independent Winegrowers (Salon des Vignerons Independants) that took place in Nice. The guys up at Le Coin du Fromager had reminded us of this label and we were intrigued to attend this event and discover some new wines.
Members of this network adhere to a charter of values, assuring that they participate in all aspects of their wine’s confection. This label assures a high level of involvement of the winegrower in the cultivation, harvest, winemaking, bottling and sales of their wine. It is also an assurance of the growers respect for nature, and winemaking traditions.
Joshua and I spent over two hours circling around the almost 200 winemakers, who are required by the rules of the exhibition to present their products in person. We were impressed by their friendliness and pride in their products. We focused on organic producers from Cotes de Provence, Bandol and Languedoc, but almost all of the French wine producing regions were represented.
In the future be sure to pay special attention to this little label on French wines. They also have upcoming events in Bordeaux, Lyon, Strasbourg and Paris and once a year in London.
